I think I was one of the few people who actually really enjoyed THE INVENTION OF LYING and, as such, was looking forward to Ricky Gervais’ follow-up, CEMETERY JUNCTION. Unfortunately when the film was released in the UK, it didn’t perform as well as some had hoped and plans for a theatrical release here in the States were scrapped.
Instead the film, co-directed by Gervais and his “The Office” co-creator Stephen Merchant, will hit DVD shelves today. Despite its talented creative team, CEMETERY wasn’t a full-fledged comedy. It’s more of a coming-of-age drama set in the 1970s. It looks like the perfect kind of movie that could get lost in theaters but could be a gem on home video.
