Would sparkly manpires make you stop directing all together? Wait, don't answer that.

Though it's not the case, NEW MOON director Chris Weitz could be burned out. He suggests that he might need a bit of relaxation and down time for awhile, "Every time I make a movie I’m pretty much convinced it’s the last time I’m going to be able to do it and that really it’s a rather silly occupation to undertake. But I think I have maybe one more film in me."

Weitz has done a lot outside of direction in the movie biz. He's often helped out his brother, Paul on a couple of occasions, one of them being AMERICAN PIE. Some would say that Weitz's best film to date is the adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel About a Boy. I favor the adaptation of Hornby's other novel, HIGH FIDELITY, but that's for another day and time.

Perhaps Weitz is worn out from the hellishly long press tour for NEW MOON. He's been through some shit with the controversy on THE GOLDEN COMPASS, more drama with the firing of Catherine Hardwicke (director of TWILIGHT) possibly because she's a woman, and of course accepting the job of directing the cast of the TWILIGHT series. Chris really just wants to do some spare time stuff, "You know, it sounds ridiculous, but I’d really like to be a better surfer. I’d like to learn to speak Spanish fluently; I’d like to travel around, live in Italy; I’d like to learn kung fu… It’s nice to make movies, but it’s also really hard.”

On one hand I'd give anything to experience half of the things Weitz has experienced, but then again I bet it does get rather grueling. Maybe a little time off is all he needs to breathe new creativity into his career.

Extra Tidbit: HIGH FIDELITY is one of those movies that I watch over and over because John Cusack's portrayal of Rob Gordon is irresistible. Favorite quote: "I wanna live with a musician. She'd write songs at home and ask me what I thought of them, and maybe even include one of our little private jokes in the liner notes." Anyone that is that passionate about music gets a thumbs up in my book.

NIKI - you gotta be kiddin'
Don't get me wrong, I liked ABOUT A BOY, and I think Weitz has some talent, but what a pussy, tired of directing? I'm sure being put up in hotels for a press tour, and having a profession most of us only dream of, is real hard. NIKI your sympathies could be directed elsewhere.

Wow, I read that differently
To me it just sounds like he'll make one more movie before he takes a little break. Not that he's stopping altogether. Don't most directors take breaks between projects? Besides after this chaos (idiots) with Twlight, who doesn't need a break? I feel like I need one and I thought the books were terrible.

yay
I, too, would like to become a better surfer and travel around Italy, but why learn Spanish for that? And someone else who has love for High Fidelity gets a thumbs up in my book.
