Which actresses could be battling it out for the role of Lois Lane?

02.01.2011

UPDATE: According to Latino Review, Olivia Wilde has read for the part of Lois Lane. It's also being rumored that Stewart passed on the role, adding that Zack Snyder just wasn't impressed with her.

Superman cast...check. Yep, that's all we got so far.

According to Hollywood Insider, seven ladies are being considered for the role of Lois Lane. Here's who they offered up:

Kristen Stewart - Have heard her name mentioned in relation to the part for about a week now. I donít think itís going to happen thoughÖ too many other juicy offers on the tablet for the pretty Twilight actress.

Malin Akerman - Akerman, who starred in Zack Snyderís Watchmen, was in with a shot at one stage but now that Superman has been cast, and heís considerably younger than 32-year-old Akerman, Iíd say thereís zero chance of this happening.

Dianna Agron - The Glee star has a real go-getter of an agent thatís getting his client in the door and on the floor of near every major movie in town. She read for Spider-Man, and is said to have also read for Superman. Bit young though, perhaps?

Jessica Biel - One of the leading contenders for the role. Sheís got as much spunk as she has sexy appeal, donít be surprised if the trade reveals that the Blade Trinity star has gotten the nod in a weeks time.

Rachel McAdams - Like Biel, I hear McAdams has quite a few fans over there at Warner Bros (Whom she did Sherlock Holmes with a year or so back). McAdams was also on the shortlist for Dark Knight Rises, so sounds like Chris Nolan - who, in addition to directing the Batman movie is producing the Superman movie - likes him a McAdams with special sauce.

Mary Eizabeth Winstead and Kristen Bell have also been mentioned for the role by "third and fourth-hand resources".

I'm just going to say Rachel McAdams FTW. What do you guys think?

Extra Tidbit: On a side note, I'm hoping that Lex Luthor is more of a minor character and they give another villain a chance. I love Luthor but a different baddie would be nice.

The more I think about it the more Olivia Wilde seems like a great choice. Her or Rachel McAdams would be good choices, but I also wouldn't mind an unknown if she captured the character perfectly.

McAdams all the way.

I rewatched the underrated Superman Returns a couple of months ago and i thought to myself. Rachel McAdams would be the perfect Lois Lane random thought i know since shes obviously not in the movie but i mean she has the perfect look for it and personality. The studio is retarded if they dont choose her.

I hate it when fanboys drool all over her, but I'm all for Zooey D. as Lois. Cute, irresistable eyes and plenty of attitude. Of the choices above, I guess it would have to be McAdams . . .

If Olivia Wilde really is in the running, as someone mentioned, she gets my vote. If not her, then I'm not sure if any of these actresses are a perfect fit.

Not to split hairs here, but Cavill is 28 that is not "considerably younger" than Ackerman's 32. I don't like her for the role but age should not be the factor, especially since Lois is the veteran superstar reporter when Clark arrives having her be a few years older seems logical.

Yeah, it should be solely the fact that Akerman isn't a very good actress that ensures she doesn't get the part.

McAdams or Bell

I think out of these choices McAdams is the best fit. I'm a huge Kristen Bell fan, so I wouldn't mind seeing her get it either. I really hope it's not Jessica Biel. She's a HORRIBLE pick for Lois Lane.

A character such as Lois Lane should NEVER have to attend the "Kristen Stewart school of acting". (i.e. Stutter-and-Twitch)

The Man Of Steel's love interest deserves better than to be portrayed by this legally retarded tuna spider!

Definitely Rachel McAdams. If that's not going to happen, then Mary Elizabeth Winstead might be able to just about pull it off. How Kristen Stewart was even remotely considered is beyond me, considering she's about 12 and acts it.

but Biel would work as well. Lois is one tough, tenacious chica, and Biel would best fit that requirement if thats the Direction they go in with her character for this movie.

Couldn't DC make something than yet another Superman movie. I'm tired of hearing about who's been cast or who might play the same characters over and over and over again. Give it a rest already WB and DC!

Meh, at least I guess they got around to Green Lantern...and before Wonder Woman. Might be some hope down the road at the WB/DC after all....

I really hope this isn't the final group of actresses for the part. The only one even remotely appropriate is Rachel McAdams.

Biel and Akerman are not very good actresses. Stewart, Winstead and Bell are ok actresses but not right for this role. I'm not too sure who Agron is but she seems too young.

As I've said earlier, the best Lois Lane I've ever seen is Courtney Cox in Scream. The bitchy, determined, attractive and likable quality that she juggled so well in that film is exactly what

So when you guys look at what actress should play Lois, imagine weather they would be able to do Cox's role in Scream. The only one that matches that for me is McAdams.

All that said, I really hope more actresses are considered.

Hope this isn't a double post, but what about Anne Hathaway? Consider it....It'll never happen now cuz of Batman, but she has the right balance of bitchiness, charisma, and hots. Margot Kidder wasn't hot, but Anne Hathaway could pick up where she left off.

I think they need to treat the villains like they do in the Batman movies: three tiers: A mobster type (Morgan Edge), A villain (Lex Luthor), collaborating with/pulling strings of a lesser villain (metallo, brainiac, darkseid, Zod)

Like Falcone, Scarecrow, Ra's Al Ghul in Begins and Maloni, two-face, Joker in TDK.

Luthor needs to be a Senator, campaigning for President, a billionaire with weapon contracts for the military, very intelligent, and... a murdering evil SOB. Pretty much if they

Pretty much if they are going to do Luthor, he NEEDS to be modeled after the Lex in Smallville. A mixture of Lionel/Lex. Only way to do it. Enough of this campy goofy shit.

Anyone who is not Rachel McAdams step forward.

And I swear to God if Malin Akerman or Kristen Stewart lands the roll Snyder is gonna find himself in the same loathsome position that I usually reserve for PT Anderson, but for almost different reasons.

You probably haven't been here long, so I'll keep it short. I've hated pretty much everything that's come from him since Magnolia. And what you call consistently good, I would describe as ripping off at the level of Brian DePalma, but somehow to better acclaim amongst critics.

But that's opinions for ya.

Eeeesh. I don't like this list. Although I do love me some Rachel McAdams, I do not see her as Lois Lane. Sorry. Yes she's a brunette. Yes she has spunk, but something is just...off.

Maybe I'm just used to Erica Durance, who I think is the BEST Lois we've ever gotten, but McAdams doesn't seem "built" enough if that makes sense. She's too dainty. I want a Lois who can fight if she has to, who can throw a punch or to and doesn't always rely on Supes to get her out of trouble.

McAdam's has yet to play a role of the type and therefore hasn't proven she can play the feisty part. This doesn't mean she can't. If they cast her, I'll give her a chance, but, and this is from THIS LIST, Biel would be a better choice, although I think she looks too young. I think they need to cast someone slightly older, so that Henry himself comes off as older.
Biel can act when she wants to, she's got spunk, she's tough, she LOOKS like Lois Lane, she can do action and has training in all that stuff. Surround her with other good actors (like we have with Cavill)and give her some good direction (we have that too; people act their asses off for Snyder) then I think she's the best on this list. Also, it'll be a good role for her to prove herself. If Ryan Reynolds can win people over, she can as well.

I think my other pick would be Envangeline Lilly: She can act well enough, she looks the part, plus she can kick major ass.

Ackerman isn't bad, she's a little less known than the others on this list which I think is a good thing, really. She'd look good brunette, she can kick ass, she's got spunk, plus she's a decent actress.

Yeah, that's a good point. I pretty much forgot about Sherlock Holmes. : )

But I still feel she's too dainty. That's not really the action I'm talking about.

I want a crass at times, loud mouth, sarcastic, but always honest and straighforward, Daughter of a general, army brat, fiesty girl who can kick ass.

McAdams doesn't fit that for me. Again, this whole list is not what I was expecting and is weak sauce. McAdams is by far the best actress here though and if she gets it, I'd be ok with it.

There's a point here. I posted there needs to be a no nonsense bitch in the role, which is exactly what McAdams played in Sherlock, but no one remembers it. Why? Because it was hardly memorable. Someone reminds you of it and you're like, "Oh yeah..."

Warner Brothers only lets actresses from the tv counter-part WB/CW star in new superhero films (see Katie Holmes in Batman Begins and Blake Lively in Green Lantern). So assuming that trend continues, hmm, i dunno, maybe Sophia Bush (I don't watch the CW a lot, and I know it won't be Erica Durance anyway). Beil was in 7th Heaven so I've got $10 saying she gets the part.

McAdams is actually older than Ackerman, though doesn't really matter. Not that I don't like McAdams, she just doesn't come across as this no nonsense, take charge bitch, for lack of a better word. Lois Lane needs a slight intimidation factor I think and, like Kate Bosworth, she's kinda small and mousy. To me, anyway. I'm not really feeling any of these actresses. Biel maybe....

I'm with McAdams

her role in Sherlock Holmes shows that she can pull of a tough girl kind of character and State of Play just reminds me of Lois in a small way.
The girl has talent and I think she;s the one that more closely resembles what I imagine Lois should be like.
As for Lex... I'm with the idea that he's been kind of done to death on tv and film so hopefully they give the character a break at least as far as making him the frontal villain. If they want him around as a sort of menacing background moving

McAdams

Not real thrilled with this list. McAdams is the only one that really fits IMO. Love Biel but she doesn't feel right. The rest are terrible. And I second Luthor in the movie but not the main big bad.

McAdams.

And by the way... in reboot news, WB is redoing "Fletch." WTF.

They have been trying to do a Fletch remake for years. Everyone from Jason Lee to Zach Braff to Ryan Reynolds to Ben Affleck have all been considered at one time or another.

If they cast Stewart, then I will lose ALOT of respect for this movie. There is no way that Stewart would make for a good Lois Lane.

I'd rather see Bosworth back again if that was the case.

Wrong, all wrong, each and every one of these actresses, for the part of Lois Lane. I just don't see the toughness, the something that would convince me that any of them would pretty much sell their own grandmothers to get the news scoop.

I feel like we're going down the Kate Bosworth route again with these picks.

As far as the extra tidbit, for god's sake, I hope they have another villain in mind aside from Luthor..

McAdams!

Like the majority of my fellow Schmoes, my vote goes for Rachel McAdams all the way. She looks the part, and is a great actress. Lets hope they make the right decision here!

She does a great job as Lois Lane on Smallville, but will not be in the movie because of the same reason why Tom Welling will not be in the movie.

Rachel McAdams, Eva Green, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, or maybe Zoey Daschenelle. Those are my picks!

I'm sorry but as much as I love the perfect Zooey Deschanel, she is not strong enough for such an iconic character. Same goes for Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Weak list

From this list, the only one I would consider for the role is McAdams.
Agron is cute but way too young. Winstead would fit the part, but she looks very young too. Akerman has the look, but isn't the best actress.
No to Biel, because her acting is mediocre at best.

My pick right now would probably be Mila Kunis!

Literally only ONE of these actresses can act. Rachel McAdams. She seems criminally underused in movies. And if Kristen Stewart gets this role...well I will just have to loose complete faith in not only the world, but the universe.

Out of all of the choices above, the only one I really like and see pulling off the iconic role is Rachel McAdams.

My number one choice is still Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Trucker). She's a good, tough actress and would bring that certain kind of attitude to Lois Lane. I also like the idea of Emily Blunt (Wolfman) for the same reasons.

Michelle Monaghan definitely. That's a much better choice than the ones I gave.

Meh

I like McAdams the best out of those choices. I hope the Kristin Stewart thing is a joke because no thank you. I don't like Olivia Wilde for this role, but I like Brendan M's other suggestions of Evan Rachel Wood or Emily Blunt. I wouldn't have a problem with most of these options though.

McAdams plz.

Also, what's wrong with Luthor? The power to sell high-priced real estate is the only thing that can threaten Supes aside from kryptonite. :p

Yeah, someone else please. Doomsday?

Not impressed with these contenders

I feel Biel, McAdams, and Stewart are overrated. And hasn't the audience already seen Biel, McAdams and Ackerman as the (superhero or at least hero's) love interest in a few movies? Stewart will have to successfully show more than one emotion on screen, which is that possible? I feel Ackerman's too tall and Agron is too young.

I still think they should highly consider Olivia Wilde or Mila Kunis for the role as the career obsessed journalist, Lois Lane. If they go with a B-lister actress,

I still think they should highly consider Olivia Wilde or Mila Kunis for the role as the career obsessed journalist, Lois Lane. If they go with a B-lister actress, maybe Kate Mara from 127 Hours? Olivia Wilde is great for downplaying her beauty as a doctor on House. Plus she is also articulate, and really projects a sense of being intellectual. I can also see Mila Kunis doing the whole outspoken, throwing out journalistic verbal vomit Lois Lane thing. And if they are going B-lister, maybe a dyed brunette Kate Mara, or wait, maybe Emmy Rossum.

They need to use a villain who is actually a physical threat to Supes, and not just a normal human with a real estate scheme.

Agreed. Not to mention the fact that Lex Luthor has been done to death.
