Wonder Woman has “seen it all” by the time Batman v Superman rolls around

While BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE will surely belong to the iconic pairing of Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill), another equally important character will be making her debut in the film as well; Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) won't have as much screen-time as her heroic co-stars, but her appearance will be setting up both her upcoming solo film and the epic JUSTICE LEAGUE two-part feature film. Speaking with Empire Magazine (via CBM), BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE director Zack Snyder said that the decision to include Wonder Woman in the film came from Snyder and company wanting to "try it all."

It was incredibly organic how Wonder Woman came into the story, the whole concept came of, 'Let's not save anything. Let's try it all.' Then Wonder Woman's entrance made us realize we were much closer to the Justice League than we thought. We realised we were one movie away.

Snyder also revealed that Wonder Woman has been around for a lot longer than we thought, having played the superhero game for over 5000 years. According to Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman has since retired from protecting the world because "she's seen it all, she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight." Gadot then gave a few hints as to what separates Wonder Woman's alter-ego Diana Prince from the warrior princess, "they have the same attitude. Although when she is Diana she tries to blend in, she is not too outgoing. I don't want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty." Executive producer Deborah Snyder then chimed in with a few details on Wonder Woman's solo film, saying:

Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon. Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back. The way we have approached it, especially in the stand alone ovie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story – and it is a period piece – see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humour in that now. It is so unbelievable you can't even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE will hit theaters on March 25, 2016, while WONDER WOMAN will arrive on June 23, 2017.
