Woody Harrelson superhero satire Defendor gets a (small) release

Jeez, Woody Harrelson can’t get a break, huh? At least not as DEFENDOR. His ZOMBIELAND was a box-office hit and a top-selling DVD, he got an Oscar nomination for THE MESSENGER, and the much-buzzed KICK-ASS is giving serious shine to the superhero satire genre.

Still, Sony is slapping the movie straight to disc in April (despite a strong response at festivals), so the producers doing their own theatrical release of DEFENDOR starting on Friday, February 26th, at Landmark in Los Angeles, and then rolling out from there.

The synopsis: Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson) doesn’t need superpowers or fancy toys to fight crime. Armed only with a childlike sense of wonder and his quirky arsenal of cheap, homemade gadgets, he becomes DEFENDOR! He finds an unexpected partner when he rescues and falls for a local prostitute (Kat Dennings). Can the two of them take down the city’s most fearsome crime boss without getting killed in the process?
