You know your day is not complete without knowing 50 Cent and Bobby De Niro have reteamed in Freelancers

There has to be some secret cabal with far reaching government connections whose sole purpose is to further the career for Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. If you scan his filmography over on IMDb, Jackson has starred with actors such as Al Pacino, Bruce Willis, Val Kilmer, Carla Gugino, Willem Dafoe, Harrison Ford, and Diane Keaton. But, he must be so irresistible that Robert De Niro decided to make another film after the cinematic masterpiece that was RIGHTEOUS KILL.

Fitty and De Niro star in FREELANCERS, from the producers of 16 BLOCKS and RIGHTEOUS KILL (Update: I said director instead of producer, my mistake!), The film also stars Dana Delaney and Forest Whitaker.

Plot: The son of a slain NYPD officer joins the force, where he falls in with his father’s former partner and a team of rogue “Gotham cops.” His new boss, Sarcone (De Niro), will see if he has what it takes to be rogue through many trials and tribulations of loyalty, trust and respect. However, when the truth about his father’s death is revealed, revenge takes over and he won’t stop until justice has been truly served.

Maybe somebody told De Niro that it was Scorcese’s sequel to THE DEPARTED and them locked him on the set and threw away the keys. Who knows.

FREELANCERS opens in New York and Los Angeles on August 10th and then on Blu-ray on August 21.
