Zack Snyder on the similarities between Man of Steel and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and more

05.29.2013

MAN OF STEEL looks like it could be the biggest movie of the summer. Zack Snyder and company appear to have something incredibly epic in store for us and this new take on Superman should be an absolute blast. Snyder has already started making the rounds promoting the film and yesterday was on Breakfast Television (a morning show in Toronto) to talk about his new movie.

First the director talks about why he decided to take on MAN OF STEEL:

Superman, I'm a bit of a fan so having the opportunity to work on Superman is a little bit of a dream come true. [It was] super exciting, a little bit of pressure but really fun.

Ever since Christopher Nolan joined the film people have been wondering if MAN OF STEEL will be similiar to THE DARK KNIGHT series and in the interview Zack Snyder was asked if people should be comparing his new film to Nolan's Batman movies:

Only in that it's a modern way in looking at the characters. Everyone's used to Superman in a way, maybe in your mind you say, 'I know exactly what Superman is.' We were able to say [with Man of Steel], what about this way of looking at him? We tried to make him more modern but it's hard to talk about him that way, in those terms. Everyone asks 'Oh, did you make him more modern' but what does that mean? We just tried to make him cool.

Before some of you freak out I'm sure Snyder doesn't mean they only wanted the character to be cool and nothing else. I think he's just excited to see how fans react to the movie and what he has done with the character.

Finally Snyder was then asked if any of the rumors about the director possibly working on a Superman/Batman film were true. His answer?

I haven't heard that but that sounds awesome. That's how rumors get started, I did not know that.

I'm sure even if he was secretly working on the project he wouldn't confirm it now but it does look like a Superman/Batman movie is not in the works at this time.

Starring Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne, MAN OF STEEL flies into theaters on June 14th, 2013.

Lame

I've figured it out. The only reason people are excited for this movie is because it looks nothing like the crappy, outdated source material. So before all the thumbs down, how come every other comic book movie that changes something (spider-man 3, Wolverine, Punisher) all the fanboys cry fowl. But this looks nothing like superman, and everyone is excited. If there is a comic book that should never be made dark and serious, it's Fantastic Four, (which was fine by the way, and just like the

If there is a comic book that should never be made dark and serious, it's Fantastic Four, (which was fine by the way, and just like the comic, but people still hated), and Superman. It just goes to show, that people don't know what they want. This movie looks like a lame gaudy Twilight version of a comic book movie.

snyder + nolan = doing it right

not to get my hopes too high... but this MoS is going to be a better comic book movie than the almighty TDK. when they said "a chris nolan story with zack snyder visuals" (which is what the trailers are giving me) i thought... this is how it should be done. this is how actual comic books are done when they team up a great writer with a great artist. zack snyder is like the todd mcfarlane of movies for me. he had awesome visuals, but his solo stories were kind of whatever. teaming him up with

I am so fucking pumped up for Man of Steel. It's a bit disturbing. This will be the movie of the year maybe in the top Superhero movies of all time - it can go right beside Superman 2.

Batman/Superman public enemies, that would be sweet, I think a cartoon came out a while back.

for a superman/batman movie it would have to be public enemies, and could even follow it up with the supergirl from krypton and really introduce a lot of DC characters (supergirl, darkside, wonder woman) but im still hoping for a few stand alone movies like flash and wonder woman and build to justice league, i think by now we all know man of steel is going to bit a huge hit, so DC really just needs to decide where they are going to go from here, i really wanna see them include death in the

Is Red Son the graphic novel where it's an alternate world where Superman's ship crashed in Russia opposed to America? That would be a cool story to see adapted, but I think it will be made through WB Animation before we see it on the big screen.

Red Son's a fantastic book.
I don't see them ever making a movie of it, but would be amazing to watch.

Man of Steel is going to be the film of the summer, possibly the year. The movie looks epic and every new piece of footage gets me even more excited than I was before.
