That's right. It was announced at D23 that the new Pirates movie is called PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES. Is everyone excited? I'm a little jaded by the last one, but as long it doesn't end stupid or involve the Turner family pirate adventures, I'll see it.

Our own Jenna Busch is covering D23 and had this to say:

"It was announced today at an event at Disney's D23 Expo that Johnny Depp will be starring in the fourth PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN movie, ON STRANGER TIDES. They didn't reveal any details, but they did trot Depp out in full Jack Sparrow regalia. He appeared to be trying not to laugh as he asked the audience if they had seen a talking frog. Strange name, ON STRANGER TIDES. Not sure what could be stranger than a guy playing the organ with his tentacles...but hey, maybe this one will have a storyline that makes sense. (Honestly though, just give me Johnny Depp in eyeliner. I have a kind of thing for that.) The film is slated for release in Summer 2011."

'Had the audience seen a talking frog?' My mind is currently boggled. Jack Sparrow's antics are always delightful in my opinion. Hopefully it's more geared towards his character, and maybe Lord Cutler Beckett? Okay, so it probably won't have Beckett in it but I kind of have a thing for sexy English chairmen of the East India Trading Company.

Make sure you guys check back soon as we will have full coverage from D23. There's a ton of cool stuff I'm hearing about already.

Let's face it
The Curse of the Black Pearl is the only good film so far. The second one is just too much fantasy for a pirate film. The Kraken? Davy Jones with a tentacle beard? A guy with a hammer shark head?

The third film is just intelligence insulting, with the clones and... rock crabs. Oh, and when we finally got to see Calypso, some of us actually expected her to do something awesome and...

Love the 1st one, enjoyed the 2nd, didn't really enjoy the 3rd but Depp was great in them all. Hopefully this time Bloom & Nightly will be out and fingers crossed that Russell Brand will appear as Cpt.Jack's brother.

Oh fuck me
The first was great, the second had some good moments but the storyline got kind of meh, and the third one was completely fucked. They should have kept it as a lighthearted Indiana Jones type fantasy adventure rather than the pseudo-epic they tried to make it into.

I love them all
All 3 Pirates of the Carribean movies are near and dear to my heart. I'm plenty interested in the further adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and comapany.

It's really cool that they appear to be hunkering down for a smaller story. That's a smart move. Too often, sequel writers feel pressured to "up the ante" in subsequent films, which is inevitably an upside-down pyramid-of-doom. The higher the stakes rise, the harder it is to keep things from collapsing into silliness and unbelieveability.

...Nice reference to the Princess & The Frog by good ol' Depp. Hehe. Title doesn't seem as...epic(?) as I thought it would be, but hey, this one's the first in an all new trilogy (I'm guessing) so it makes sense that it's more suspenful / interesting than being epic.

Still, I'm all in for another Pirates. Not the biggest Pirates fan and didn't really drown in all the hype so I gu...

The title sucks. I thought Dead Man's Chest was the best in the series. With At World's End being utter garbage,especially with the entire Calypso story-line. I think the sequel will definitely dwell deeper into the supernatural and mythological stuff given its title.

I like this news a lot. As long as Orlando Bloom is out and it focuses on Sparrow and Barbosa this will top the sequels. If the characters weren't so damn fun in the trilogy I probably wouldn't have cared for the other movies.

Get a script that makes sense!!!
Please for the love of all that is good in this world do not make this film off a script that seems like it was written by monkeys who just got off their bananas and meds. It took me a while to recover from the horror that was the last two pirates films.

Pirates 2 and 3 are among the worst sequels I have ever seen. Seriously, in the exact same camp as Matrix sequels.

That being said, I loved the first one, and if this is the Jack and Barbossa buddy pic hinted at in the end of 3, I'll give it a chance (pending trailer).

Ouch.
This movie is already out to a bad start with a title like that. Its ironic the only good Pirates film was the one with the best title. We need these to be adventure stories. Think Indiana Jones.

That's why the first one was good. Felt like a Jones flick. So did the good parts of 2, until it jumped the Shark in the third act.

As dumb as the last two Pirates movies were, I have to say that I'm very excited about another movie. Depp as Jack Sparrow is worth the price of admission.
