Strike Back below!

Universal-based Rogue Pictures is moving forward on a sequel to this summer's surprise hit THE STRANGERS and has brought back the original's writer/director Bryan Bertino to begin working on the script. It's hard to talk about a sequel to THE STRANGERS without even unintentionally hinting at spoilers so if you haven't seen the film yet, just know that there's a sequel in the works and it's unclear if Bertino will return to direct.

BEGIN SPOILERS - Variety notes that the "expectation" is that Liv Tyler will return for the sequel along with the actors who played the killers in the film (though they essentially could be replaced rather easily). Not sure how they plan to work the sequel considering at the beginning of the film there is a title card that says the events that transpire in the movie are "not entirely known." Does Tyler skip the police and instead go on a KILL BILL style quest for revenge? ... END SPOILERS

Rogue is hoping to get production underway early in 2009. Bertino is working on a number of other projects, including BLACK and ALONE, but both are for Rogue and I'm sure the studio would be willing to put those on the backburner to get a sequel moving ahead.

Extra Tidbit: This was such a great poster for the movie but Rogue for some reason tried to bury it.

Jesus Christo, why? This movie sucked ass. Wasn't into this at all. Quite a snorefest.

ListersParanoia, props for the Always Sunny reference. I'd love to see Day Man in a movie.

Oh yeah, as for the Strangers, as a horror lover I will say I did not like this movie, but better this than Prom Night or some other teeny bopper BS.

fuck that shit
THE STRANGERS negated itself with a cheap opening that gives away the ending, and then destroys the "meaning" of the opening just for the sake of a cheap scare.

So, shoddy horror movie failure does not need re-iteration.

I don't care if the script was around two years ago, it seemed to riff off 'Ils' / 'They' too much to be considered a coincidence (Although, granted, horror films share a shedload of familiar traits..).
I absolutely hated this film, although you're about about that poster art: Damn fine for this flick.

Strangers was great
Bryan Bertino is incredible and the Strangers was a true horror film that scares you on atmosphere alone. Bertino might be everything Eli Roth was suppose to be, the guy who saves the genre. Not sure about a sequel though I'd rather see him do something new.

I liked The Strangers. A lot. But I'm not sure if they should do a sequel.

You know what I really enjoyed it. It was a lot better than what's been coming out as far as "horror" movies. It had that old school quality for me, and that music was just damn creepy.

I don't know how a sequel would pan out, if you've seen it, you would see why but I'm for giving it a chance.

No thanks. The first one was a bore. All it was was banging and screaming.
