Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gets a full season order at ABC

This seemed like a foregone conclusion, but we now have official word that MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has received a full season order which will bring it to 22 episodes. After three outings and good ratings, ABC knows it would be foolish to not pick up the series. It is only a matter of time before we hear about a second season renewal for the superhero-less comic book show.

Ratings have gone down for the second and third episodes as compared to the pilot but AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. still ranks as the top new television show of the season and the third to get either a second season or full season commitment (FOX’s SLEEPY HOLLOW and NBC’s THE BLACKLIST are the others). The show has already been polarizing for fans as evident in the talkbacks for my weekly recap column. The majority of comments are positive but detractors are complaining that the show has a generic feel and sloppy writing. As someone who typically is not a Joss Whedon fan, I like the show. It is very reminiscent of shows like ALIAS and DOLLHOUSE with a nice undercurrent of comedy. Plus, Clark Gregg is great as Coulson.

I will continue to give AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. a shot but I would also think they are going to need to amp up the comic book connections, something I am sure they are saving for whenever a new Marvel feature film is released. For now, you can check out AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. every Tuesday on ABC.
