Jason Statham joins Melissa McCarthy in Susan Cooper

Melissa McCarthy has quickly made a name for herself as the go-to comedienne for odd-couple comedies, but her latest project sees her teamed up with a most unusual co-star: Jason Statham. Variety has confirmed that Statham has signed on for SUSAN COOPER, McCarthy’s third collaboration with director Paul Feig (who directed her in BRIDESMAIDS and THE HEAT).

Statham has been rumored to be attached to the film for a few months, but today his involvement appears official. McCarthy and Statham. Who would have thunk it?

SUSAN COOPER revolves around an unlikely spy (McCarthy) who is paired up with another spy (Statham). I’m guessing they don’t see eye to eye at first, but eventually forge a grudging admiration and affection for one another.

McCarthy’s BRIDESMAIDS co-star Rose Byrne is also set to appear in SUSAN COOPER, which hits theaters in May 2015, only one month after Statham plays the baddie in FAST AND FURIOUS 7.
