Zoolander 2 script done with roles for Will Ferrell and Jonah Hill

Wow, I had heard rumblings that “fan interest” was getting ANCHORMAN 2 and ZOOLANDER 2 on track for actual release at some point in the future, but I guess I didn’t realize that the latter was already getting script treatments.

MTV caught up with writer Justin Theroux, who has a draft of the script done for the film which is allegedly supposed to be released in 2012. This is all news to me.

Where will find Hansel and Derek in the sequel?

“It’s too funny — it’ll blow your mind,” the writer/director said, though he did share the plot’s starting point, in which Stiller’s Derek Zoolander and Owen Wilson’s Hansel find themselves pushing 40 and no longer the white-hot center of the fashion world. “[W]e start off with them in a pretty bad place,” he said. “They’re about to ring 40’s bell. They have to claw their way back into the fashion industry in some way or another.”

As for the return of Mugatu? It just might happen.

“Fingers crossed, anything is possible in Hollywood, but I think you’re going to see Mugatu. We are planning on seeing Mugatu,” he told us. “There are a couple new villains that step onto the stage, which we are all very happy about. And yes, Jonah (Hill) is the inspiration for one of them.”

I never did understand why this movie wasn’t made like, six or seven years ago when this series was still pretty hip, but I for one will be happy to return to the world of ZOOLANDER so long as it’s up to the standards of the first. I’m glad to see this is at long last moving in the direction of actually happening.
