24-hour viewing record broken yet again thanks to Beauty and the Beast

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

In this fast-paced world of ours records aren’t really held for very long. Hell, last year the best opening weekend record was broken by JURASSIC WORLD, only to be demolished six months later by THE FORCE AWAKENS. This applies to all kinds of records, including the one for most watched trailer in a 24-hour period. It was only two months ago that the trailer for FIFTY SHADES DARKER broke the record held by THE FORCE AWAKENS by 2 million views, with 114 million total views. As impressive as that was, that record has now been shattered by none other than the recent BEAUTY AND THE BEAST trailer which amassed a whopping 127 million views in one day.

According to Deadline, a good 29 million views were from Facebook, with 27 million views coming from just Emma Watson’s page. That being said, let’s add to those views!

Though many are shouting “Why?!” into the heavens, I think there's a pretty obvious reason why so many tuned in. First off, Disney’s live-action remakes of animated classics have never been more popular thanks to the success of JUNGLE BOOK, and that mixed with the wave of nostalgia for anything from the 90’s has many fans banging their heads against the wall in anticipation for this flick. Plus, star Emma Watson has never been more relevant thanks to her active social media presence, and her work on behalf of women’s rights and equality gaining much-deserved press. That and she hasn’t done many huge movies post-POTTER (sans maybe NOAH), so fans are probably dying to see her in something like this. Blend it all together and you have a movie that’s destined to break the box office, as it has already broken the internet. Only time will tell if it deserves such attention, but for now it seems Disney has regained the YouTube crown. Congratulations?

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST arrives March 17, 2017.
