Godzilla: King of the Monsters Michael Dougherty

TRICK 'R TREAT director Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA sequel GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is one of my most highly anticipated releases of the year, and while the film's theatrical run is still two months away we're already able to share a report from the set of the film, which our own Eric Walkuski visited back in the summer of 2017.

The video embedded below features information that was learned from that set visit – or if you would rather read the report, you can do so at THIS LINK.

Written by Dougherty, his KRAMPUS collaborator Zach Shields, and GODZILLA / KONG: SKULL ISLAND's Max Borenstein, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS centers on

the heroic efforts of Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species thought to be mere myths rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

As indicated in some of the marketing materials, Godzilla and the three other kaiju mentioned in that synopsis probably aren't going to be the only giant monsters we see show up in this new movie. In fact, a computer monitor spotted on the set listed the codenames for several more monsters: “Baphomet,” “Typhoon,” “Abaddon,” “Bunyip,” “Methuselah,” and “Kong.”

It's not clear how much screen time those other monsters will be receiving, but I wouldn't expect to see Kong do much before the release of GODZILLA VS. KONG next year.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS' human cast includes Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Zhang Ziyi, Aisha Hinds, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Randy Havens, Jonathan Howard, Anthony Ramos, Bradley Whitford, and Elizabeth Ludlow.

The motion capture performances for the three heads of Ghidorah were delivered by Jason Liles, Richard Dorton, and Alex Maxson.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS will arrive in theatres on May 31st, but if you'd like to dig into some of its secrets before then check out the video below or the article linked above.
