Constantine may be getting a new TV show with Matt Ryan in the lead

Constantine Matt Ryan

Constantine, a television series starring Matt Ryan as the DC Comics character John Constantine, lasted only thirteen episodes on NBC before being cancelled. That was four years ago, but Ryan's time as Constantine has never ended despite his show not getting a second season. He just moved over to DC shows on The CW and provided the voice of the character for animated projects.

Since Constantine ended, Ryan has played Constantine on an episode of Arrow, twenty-four episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, and voiced the character for the animated feature JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK and the animated mini-series Constantine: City of Demons. These projects have been so successful at keeping Ryan's version of Constantine alive and popular with fans, he might be getting a second shot at his own show now.

Sources have told WeGotThisCovered that a new Constantine TV show is in development at Warner Bros., and they want Matt Ryan to keep playing the character.

This is apparently in very early stages right now, so it's not clear where this show might end up if it does move forward. The CW is an option, of course, since their schedule is packed with DC shows, but another option could be the DC Universe streaming service.

If you're not familiar with Constantine, his Wikipedia write-up describes him as a

working class occult detective and con man stationed in London. He is known for his endless cynicism, deadpan snarking, ruthless cunning and constant chain smoking, but is also a passionate humanitarian driven by a heartfelt desire to do some good in his life.

He is also known as "the Hellblazer". Keanu Reeves previously played a version of the character in the 2005 film that was appropriately titled CONSTANTINE.
