The battle for Westeros will finally come to an end in just a few months time, and judging by just about everything we've heard, it will be quite the epic finale. Game of Thrones is set to return to HBO this April, but one lucky person has already seen all six episodes of the eighth and final season – HBO CEO Richard Plepler.
The HBO chief spoke with Variety during the cable-network's Golden Globes party to reveal that he's seen rough cuts of each episode of Game of Thrones' final season. He was also full of praise for what he'd seen (what else would he say?) and compared each episode to a full-fledged movie.
It’s a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, 'I’m watching a movie.' [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] knew the bar was high. They’ve exceeded the bar. I’ve watched them twice without any CGI and I’m in awe. Everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production.
Although the final season of Game of Thrones will only consist of six episodes, they're all rumoured to be on the longer side, each pushing about 90 minutes. That's an awful lot of back-stabbing intrigue, armies of the undead, dragons, and good 'ol incest. HBO has been keeping most everything regarding this final season under wraps, but we did get a small glimpse at some new footage the other day. I'll take it. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will debut in April 2019.
