HBO offers new looks at Watchmen series, Game of Thrones’ final season

While the Golden Globes were honoring some of the best in movies and television (and GREEN BOOK) last night, HBO used the opportunity to share some footage from a few of their most anticipated shows of 2019. They may not have walked away with any awards, but this trailer sporting new looks at shows like the WATCHMEN series and the final season of GAME OF THRONES was among the winners of the evening, teasing the epic year of television ahead.

Given that it’s a compilation trailer featuring footage from all sorts of other shows, including the new seasons of BIG LITTLE LIES and VEEP, there wasn’t a ton of detail given in the clip. For GAME OF THRONES, it extends on the very first look we got in another HBO tease some months ago, wherein Sansa (Sophie Turner) embraced Jon Snow (Kit Harington) among his return to Winterfell. In this clip, we see her meeting Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) for the first time, with a little bit of hesitation in her voice. Something tells me they won’t become BFFs after this.

Then there’s WATCHMEN, which got a longer sizzle reel, showing off photos of Jeremy Irons’ Adrian Veidt / Ozymandias and Rorschach, along with some other unsettling visuals. The series is based on the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons graphic novel (which was also turned into a movie by Zack Snyder in 2009) and was created by Damon Lindelof, who will also write and executive produce. Also on the creative team are Oscar-winning musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (THE SOCIAL NETWORK, GONE GIRL) who will be composing the show’s music.

As much as I'm dying to see how that WATCHMEN show is, I think my excitement for GAME OF THRONES' final season trumps my excitement for anything else this year other than AVENGERS: ENDGAME. Really, do I need to explain why? That look Sansa gives Daenerys alone is all you need to sell this final season.

GAME OF THRONES season 8 arrives this April, and WATCHMEN debuts later in the year.
