Miles Teller to fly high as Goose’s son for Top Gun: Maverick

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Grab your flight gear, start practicing your biting taunts and get ready for a montage, because Variety has learned that Paramount and Skydance have cast Miles Teller (WHIPLASH, FANTASTIC FOUR) as the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protege in TOP GUN: MAVERICK.

Before the news of Teller's casting broke, Cruise is said to have screen tested with Teller, Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult for the role. It's obvious now that Teller had the right stuff, and will now board the highly anticipated sequel to Tony Scott's 1986 original film.

Directing all the machismo and sky-high hot-dogging will be TRON: LEGACY and OBLIVION helmer Joe Kosinski. The plot will revolve around a world where drone technology and and fifth generation fighters are meant to explore and contemplate the end of the era of dogfighting. The sequel also marks another collaboration for Teller and Kosinski, who worked together on the director's biographical firefighter drama ONLY THE BRAVE.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK is scheduled to fly into theaters July 12, 2019.
