Wonder Woman’s Jason Fuchs to pen script for Andy Muschietti’s Robotech

A live-action adaptation of 80's anime series Robotech has been in the works for a decade, but a revolving door of studios, directors, and stars have kept the project from gaining much traction. Sony Pictures aquired the rights to the series over two years ago and set James Wan (THE CONJURING) to direct, but Wan later departed to take the helm of AQUAMAN. The studio then snagged Andy Muschietti (IT) to direct ROBOTECH several months ago, and now Deadline is reporting that Jason Fuchs has been brought on board to pen the script, which Sony is hoping to develop into a potential film franchise.

Best known for co-writing WONDER WOMAN with Zack Snyder and Allan Heinberg, Fuchs also wrote PAN, which was included on the 2013 Black List before it was developed into the poorly received Joe Wright film starring Hugh Jackman. Oh well, you can't win them all. ROBOTECH takes place in a world where the people of Earth have learned to manufacture giant robots the technology they've harvested from an alien spacecraft that had crashed in the South Pacific. Now, with the foreign machinery's power extracted for their own gain, the human race uses their new-found power to build robots that will protect the planet from impending interstellar attacks. Deadline says that Jason Fuchs will be working with Andy Muschetti on the ROBOTECH treatment and will be starting from scratch.

Those hoping for ROBOTECH to get off the ground sooner rather than later may be disappointed that Andy Muschetti is planning on completing the second chapter of IT before turning his attention to this tale of giant robots. Given the incredible success which the big-screen Stephen King adaptation has already enjoyed, I can't say I blame him. IT is now playing in theaters, so make sure to check out a review from our own Eric Walkuski and make sure to let us know what YOU thought of the film as well.
