James Gunn elaborates on his plans for Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

While walking the red carpet of the Wednesday night premiere of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, director James Gunn professed his hopes and aspirations for a third film in Marvel's sci-fi franchise by saying, “I think that the third movie is going to continue this trilogy, the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy,” exclaimed Gunn, who announced earlier this week that he would be returning to write and direct the third film. “It’s going to do it in a big way, and we’re going to come to an epic conclusion of who the Guardians are and why they were brought together, and I can’t wait to tell that story to the people.” Additionally, Gunn also stated that, “It will be the final, in this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy.”

A trilogy sounds mighty fine to me. I do have to wonder what Gunn is referring to when saying "this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy", though. Would Marvel ever consider keeping the team name but then switching out its members for other lesser-known characters to bring into the limelight? I wouldn't put it past them. After all, look at the mega-success they had with Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, Gamora, and Drax!

Furthermore, while looking positively gorgeous with her radiant smile and a smart red dress, actress Zoe Saldana said, “I don’t even know if I’m in it. Ask him [Gunn] when you interview him." What? A GUARADIANS OF THE GALAXY film without Gamora? That makes very little sense to me, unless something quite tragic that I don't know about happens to Saldana's character during the events of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. I hope this isn't the case, as Gamora is my favorite character of the bunch.
