For those of you who love seeing the latest blockbusters in the largest screens available, IMAX just posted the upcoming slate of Disney films that will be utilizing their theater space. Furthermore, they also confided that director Rian Johnson has utilized IMAX cameras for THE LAST JEDI, stating that he has, "captured key sequences of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI using IMAX’s extremely high-resolution cameras, delivering IMAX audiences greater scope and increased image quality in IMAX’s exclusive aspect ratio for a uniquely immersive experience." While the following list won't all use IMAX cameras for filming, you can expect to see these in their theaters:

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  • The untitled Indiana Jones film
  • The untitled Han Solo Star Wars anthology film
  • Star Wars: Episode IX
  • Marvel’s Black Panther
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • Captain Marvel
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Untitled Avengers sequel
  • Beauty and The Beast
  • A Wrinkle in Time
  • Mulan
  • Pixar’s The Incredibles 2
  • Toy Story 4
  • Wreck-It Ralph Sequel

There was only one sequence from FORCE AWAKENS shot in IMAX, but it was fantastic experience for those who were able to partake. Rian Johnson confirmed that he would be shooting on film long ago, but wasn't sure about the IMAX format. I'm glad to hear that Disney allotted him the time and finances to do so. Here's hoping there'll be some decent 2D IMAX screenings in your area!

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will open in theaters on December 15, 2017.
