Dan Fogler joins Fantastic Beasts as Newt Scamander’s muggle friend

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Another actor has joined the cast of the Harry Potter spin-off FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM. This time it will not be someone familiar with the magical world as Dan Fogler will portray Jacob, a muggle that Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander befriends on his travels to New York City. Deadline did not provide any further details regarding the extent of Fogler's role in the film.

Dan Fogler is most recognized for his comedic work in films like BALLS OF FURY and FANBOYS while also garnering a Tony Award and appearing on TV series like The Goldbergs, The Good Wife, and Hannibal. I would assume he is going to provide a level of comic relief in the movie but he is not limited to being just funny. Fogler was in contention opposite Josh Gad and Michael Cera for the role.

There are still multiple roles needing to be filled in the David Yates directed film. J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves wrote the screenplay for what is envisioned as a trilogy. THE FLASH's Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol are also in talks for other roles in the movie. As a big Harry Potter fan, I am looking forward to how this movie comes together. The cast is already skewing older than the teen actors in the original series. I am curious if that will impact the tone of the movie.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM is slated to hit theaters on November 18, 2016.
