Gal Gadot answers criticism of her body and portrayal of Wonder Woman

There has been an unbelievable amount of backlash related to almost every decision related to BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. Whether it be the casting of Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, or Jesse Eisenberg, everyone has been pissy about the choices Zack Snyder and company have made in the DC Cinematic Universe. Gal Gadot especially has been targeted in relation to her physical appearance with many saying she is not Amazonian enough.

In an interview for Israeli website Ynet, Gadot addresses her body type in playing Wonder Woman to some comments we have previously heard.

“When I was younger I could take criticism really hard. But now it mostly amuses me. The true Amazons had one boob so it won’t bother them in their archery. So it’s not going to be like real Amazons. We always try to make everyone happy but we can’t.”

I am glad that she is not taking the trolls personally. In this day and age of social media, people do not really have filters like they used to and that can be both good and bad. We hoenstly have no idea how she will do as Wonder Woman until we see the film next year, so we should all relax until then.

In some new details about her role, Gadot shared the following.

“She has unbelievable endurance. She is exceptionally strong. She can jump really high and practically fly. She knows tons of martial arts styles. She is a strong and serious woman.”

I like that they are making Diana's powers distinct from those of Superman or Batman. It would have been easy to treat her like the DC equivalent of Thor, but giving Wonder Woman powers that straddle human and superhuman will make her much more identifiable with audiences and give the writers a lot more dramatic license in building stories for her in future films.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE opens March 25, 2016 and WONDER WOMAN is coming June 23, 2017.
