Director Genndy Tartakovsky is a popular name among fans of animation, having built a loyal fanbase through shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack and the short-lived Star Wars: The Clone Wars mini-series. Tartakovsky seems to be transitioning well (financially, anyway) into the feature-film arena, as HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA brought in over $350 million worldwide. While the man still has that very cool-looking POPEYE film coming our way in 2016, right now Tartakovsky is hard at work on HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2. If that doesn't seem like an exciting prospect for you, perhaps the fact a comedy legend taking part in it will garner some interest. None other than Mel Brooks himself will voicing Dracula's father, Vlad, in the sequel.

Mel Brooks had this to say on taking on the role:

I’m having a wonderful time with the character Vlad. He’s been around for eons and he’s a pretty crabby guy. Basically, he reminds me of me.

The plot will see the old-fashioned vampire Vlad (Brooks) arrive at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together that proves to be a comic collision of supernatural old-school and modern day cool. All of the characters from the first look to return. I've never seen HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA so I can't speak for it, but any project Tartakovsky works on will always warrant a look from me. I'm a little more interested in POPEYE and whatever original projects he has going on afterwards, but you never know. We may be pleasantly surprised, right?

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 will be released on September 25, 2015.

Remember the time Tartakovsky made Mace Windu cool?
