Despite BIG HERO 6 being released on November 7, Marvel movie news has died down for a bit (well, until that AGE OF ULTRON trailer hits . . . ). However, pre-production is underway for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 with the film already being written. At Variety‘s Entertainment & Technology Summit, writer/director James Gunn teased the audience with a few tidbits of information regarding the follow-up.

James Gunn on the prologue for GUARDIANS 2:

It’s going to be a really surprising open. What happens is all the characters are killed in the first 10 minutes. In really horribly brutal fashion.

When writing on the second film started:

I spent all day on Aug. 1, the day the first movie was released, writing GUARDIANS 2. I was so excited about it and I was finally able to let go of the last one and begin the second one. I always saw this as a universe, not just as one story.

Joking aside, according to Variety, Gunn also stated that along with all of the original Guardians returning, audiences may see the team adding members as well. Given that Michael Rooker's Yondu was in the original Guardians line-up, one wonders if they might make room for him in the sequel. Either way, Gunn did a hell of a job with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and the sequel will undoubtedly join AGE OF ULTRON and CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 as one of the most anticipated follow-ups to a Marvel property.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will hit Blu-ray/DVD on December 9, 2014.
