Peter Jackson is not exactly known for brevity. Aside from the already immense running time of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, the Extended Editions add hours of excised footage to complete the story. With THE HOBBIT, Jackson has a similarly dense film running time. Having been criticized for stretching a brief volume into a trilogy, Peter Jackson crammed THE HOBBIT films with both addendum material from the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien as well as original characters and changed storylines. In the end, the trilogy will clock in at over 33,000 seconds.

So, if brevity is your thing, then check out this new LEGO recreation of THE HOBBIT that clocks in at 72 seconds and yet manages to tell the entire plot of the book without splitting it into three massive movies. Keep in mind that this video doesn’t end prior to THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES, so consider this spoiler territory. Using actual LEGO toys rather than CGI, this is a funny little video that manages to use the visual design of Jackson’s films while staying true to the novel.

If you want to see how the longer version wraps up, THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES hits theaters on December 12, 2014.
