In a move that surprises no one, both FOX’s GOTHAM and FX’s AMERICAN HORROR STORY have been picked up for more episodes. GOTHAM has been expanded from the original order of 16 episodes to a full 22 for it’s debut season while AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW debuted to such big ratings that the Ryan Murphy series will return for a fifth run next year.

GOTHAM has been one of FOX’s sole hits this season, representing their biggest debut hit in 14 years and Monday night’s biggest hit. The series, which we review weekly here, has begun to develop a following of fans who have stuck with the show through the lackluster pilot into a couple of enjoyable episodes. It remains to be seen if the show will continue past this season, but if the ratings hold up you can count on it.

FX has already found AMERICAN HORROR STORY to be a hit for the last three years, but each season seems to build on the ratings of the prior run. With this being Jessica Lange‘s last year on the show, expect the season to end with a bang. It is unknown what next year will be about, but FX has also ordered a companion series called AMERICAN CRIME STORY. Ryan Murphy has a solid run with the cable network going back to NIP/TUCK, so expect this series to air until the ratings tank.

GOTHAM airs Mondays on FOX. AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW airs Wednesdays on FX.
