When The CW series ARROW returns for a third season this fall, it will be with a very familiar actor donning the persona of a DC Comics character. SUPERMAN RETURNS star Brandon Routh will be joining ARROW to portray Ray Palmer, the man who will become The Atom.

For those not familiar with DC Comics, The Atom is an Ant-Man type hero who is able to shrink himself to the size of, well, an atom. The character has been a part of both the Justice League as well as the Suicide Squad, the latter of which has already played prominently in the second season of ARROW. TVLine shared the following synopsis of the role on ARROW

Ray Palmer, an “unparalleled scientist and inventor,” is Queen Consolidated’s new owner and has mysterious plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division. He is rumored to be a love interest for Felicity.

Routh’s career never quite took off after he starred in Bryan Singer‘s SUPERMAN RETURNS. The actor has worked steadily in films like Edgar Wright‘s SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD, a recurring role o NBC’s CHUCK, and several other smaller projects. It will be cool to see him rejoin the world of comic book characters when ARROW returns this October.
