Frank Darabont, Frank Marshall deny Indiana Jones reboot rumors

A couple of days ago, the Internet raged against the prospect of an INDIANA JONES reboot, possibly with Bradley Cooper in the lead. While we will eventually be reaching the inevitable point of the famous archeaologist character needing to be retired completely if not recast, Harrison Ford has already expressed his desire to don the fedora at least once more. Well, it looks like we have some news from those involved with INDIANA JONES who want to clarify these rumors.

First up is Frank Darabont, longtime friend and associate of George Lucas, who wrote several entries in the YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES television series as well as an early draft of INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. The reboot rumor listed Darabont as a potential scripter for the fifth film to which he offered this response via Ain’t It Cool News:

“This is an internet rumor with not a shred of truth in it. I have not pitched an idea for a proposed Indiana Jones movie, nor has anybody approached me with such an idea. The inaccurate report on Latino Review was the first I’d heard of it.”

While that sounds pretty definitive, producer Frank Marshall refused to dignify the rumors calling them “ridiculous” and “agent pipe dreams”. Marshall also said he will not comment further until there is real news to acknowledge. He did confirm one bit of casting for us:

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL premiered almost 6 years ago and did show the wear and tear on the Lucasfilm franchise. But, much like how STAR WARS is receiving an influx of support since the Disney buyout, INDIANA JONES could easily benefit from the same. While Harrison Ford is still presumably locked in for the new trilogy of STAR WARS movies in some capacity, I wouldn’t hold my breath to see him portray Dr. Jones again any time soon.
