Peter Weller on what made Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop so damn good

It seems like everyone has an opinion on the ROBOCOP remake based off of the recently released first trailer, but one person who hasn't seen it is the original Alex Murphy, Peter Weller. Hitfix talked to the actor at the STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Blu-ray release party and asked him about the upcoming remake. It's funny that Weller hasn't seen the trailer, but his analysis on what made the film a classic and why fans love it so much are exactly the reasons why some people aren't too thrilled with how the remake looks.

My biggest problem is that it looks like the remake completely lacks any of the humor that was in the original. Bullets and blood aren't the only reasons why the 1987 film is considered a classic. I've seen more than one person compare it to the TOTAL RECALL remake, and I also get the same vibe. The remake has the potential to be a good action movie, but I highly doubt it will successfully blend the violence, social commentary and themes that were featured in the original.

Jose Padilha's ROBOCOP starring Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley and Jay Baruchel will be in theaters on February 7th, 2014.
