David Goyer will neither confirm nor deny Lex Luthor’s presence in Man of Steel

We haven’t heard many rumblings about Lex Luthor appearing in either MAN OF STEEL or the future JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. After the fan outcry against SUPERMAN RETURNS, it seems that Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer are going for something a little different for the reboot of the classic DC icon. Much like Christopher Nolan‘s BATMAN BEGINS, MAN OF STEEL is trotting out a different villain than the main antagonist of Luthor. While General Zod is a bit higher on the food chain than Ra’s Al Ghul, he is still no Lex Luthor.

While Luthor may not be the primary villain in MAN OF STEEL, Goyer is not denying that he makes an appearance in the new movie. In a recent interview with I Am Rogue, Goyer was directly asked about why Luthor was cut from the MAN OF STEEL screenplay to which the screenwriter had this to say.

I don’t think anyone has ever confirmed that we haven’t included him.”

Interesting. So, I would think this either means that Luthor is referred to off screen as a presence in the new DC Cinematic Universe or maybe makes a cameo appearance. Either way, I hope we get some Lex. The bald-headed supervillain is the perfect antithesis of Superman. If Gpyer and Snyder want their new film to be about the fear the world holds for this alien who himself is struggling to find his place in our world, Luthor is the embodiment of that fear and xenophobia.

MAN OF STEEL opens everywhere on June 14, 2013, hopefully with Lex in tow.
