Anthony Mackie sheds some light on his Falcon costume in Captain America; The Winter Soldier

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is a bigger question mark for me than any of the Phase Two movies, including GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. THE FIRST AVENGER was a fun, retro action movie that made me yearn for a sequel to THE ROCKETEER. Now that Steve Rogers is firmly in the 21st Century, the sequel will serve as a reboot more than anything.

But, the solid addition of Anthony Mackie as Falcon will greatly help the Russo Bros, who take over directing duties from Joe Johnston. It has been a question mark as to whether Mackie’s portrayal of Sam Wilson would mimic how Black Widow and Hawkeye appeared in THE AVENGERS. Those two are the only heroes whose costumes were grounded more in reality. With Falcon, the guy has wings, which is kind of hard to turn into a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform. Mackie is doing press for GANGSTER SQUAD and shed some light on this topic.

Mackie told MTV that he knows what Falcon will look like in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and “it’s pretty awesome. I look like a bad mother-what. It’s pretty cool.”

I would assume they are going to go for more of the current appearance of Falcon, as seen in the image above from the Ultimate comic line, rather than the retro white and red outfit from the seventies.

Mackie also said he has read the script and it is “fun”. Fun does not jive with the political thriller angle previously bandied about regarding the story, but hopefully both can exist. I know Captain America is more of the clean cut hero type, but I always liked him the best when he turned a little darker.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is slated to open on April 4. 2014.
