Eli Roth tells us what it was like to not have to deal with the MPAA for his gory new film Ice Cream Man

Earlier this year when I spoke to Eli Roth for the release of the Cabin Fever 4K, he teased his new film Ice Cream Man, saying that he couldn’t believe how game the kids were for horror. And I suppose they’d have to be given the concept of a bunch of kids being possessed by ice cream, making them kill all of the adults in sight. It’s filled with more blood and guts than any of Roth’s prior work, which is certainly saying something. You can check out my review of the film HERE.

I was able to speak to Eli about this new project, and he gets into some of the challenges of making a horror film where kids are killing adults. Because, as you’d imagine, pulling off practical FX with children isn’t the easiest. Yet, it sounds like Roth was down for the challenge, finding the right kids for the part, or replacing them if they weren’t up to the task. It sounds like this production was an absolute blast, and you can check out my conversation with Eli in the embedded video above!

Ice Cream Man plot:

Ice Cream Man follows an idyllic summer town descending into madness when an ice cream man serves kids sweet delights with horrifying results.

Ice Cream Man is playing in theaters on August 7th, 2026 and you can purchase tickets for it HERE.
