Marvel working with ABC to develop a TV series set in the universe of The Avengers

The Avengers assembled

Before you get too worried – Marvel isn’t looking to let loose another “Heroes” on the world (though if they tried I think they’d have a much better idea of what they were doing).  Should an AVENGERS-related television show ever come to pass, it would be something much more grounded than men and women in tights and armor gallivanting about.

So what would it be then? Well, that isn’t known yet.  As for what it might be: “The connection to the Avengers franchise would be light as the project is expected to be set in the universe and feature some of its themes and feel, but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster… the project is in a nascent stage, described as ‘a kernel of an idea,’ with a number of scenarios being explored, including a high-concept cop show.”

Perhaps this could be Marvel’s way of giving us the further adventures of SHIELD? Or maybe even the past adventures of SHIELD, thereby circumventing the need to bring in someone of Samuel L. Jackson’s stature on anything more than an occasional basis?

To be honest, what I’m really trying to say here is… I’ve got a fever, and the only cure is more Clark Gregg.

But maybe that’s just me – what would you want out of a television series inspired by the greater AVENGERS universe?
