PARANORMAN, the new stop-motion animation film from the makers of CORALINE has a lot going for it; zombies, ghosts, action, and a very GOONIES-esque feel to it.  It feels like something we’ve been missing for a while, which is the old-school kids adventure flick, much like the aforementioned THE GOONIES or THE MONSTER SQUAD.  Stop-motion is an exceptionally challenging and intricate business, which makes seeing the behind-the-scenes process that much more engrossing.  Today, we have a look behind the animators of PARANORMAN, highlighting their efforts to take on such an ambitious endeavor.

See dead people come to life:

Between this and FRANKENWEENIE, I’m totally stoked to see some stop-motion on the big screen again.  No matter how many times I see a making-of on one of these types of films, I can’t help but sit in awe of the process and the culmination of that work onscreen.  As long as they keep making films like this, I’ll continue to see them.

PARANORMAN stars the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, John Goodman, Anna Kendrick, and Leslie Mann. The film rises from the dead on August 17, 2012.
