Been a minute since we’ve heard anything from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN camp and today we have a new poster from the pic, featuring The Lizard, as played by Rhys Ifans.
Looks okay, I suppose, but certainly doesn’t spill a “badass” from my lips. The eyes and mouth seem way too human to sell the character as a lizard to me. Hollywood has been very shy in really going for it with the more monstrous characters in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery thus far (see Venom-lite in SPIDER-MAN 3) and it’s kind of a shame.
Perhaps he’ll play better onscreen as these promo ads usually have quite a bit of photo manipulation. My feeling is that THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN will likely be entertaining, but will be swallowed up by the big boys this summer, namely THE AVENGERS and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Still, if you asked me to choose between this and, say, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, there’s no question that Snow White would get my money.
