Some new images for JOHN CARTER have arrived, highlighting both Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) and Lynn Collins (Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars) as well as some of the martians, airships, and that cute little alien-dog creature.

Check out the images below:

As we grow closer to the film’s release I find my own anticipation growing for the film, which I originally thought, “Eh, it looks pretty cool, I guess,” and am now sold on a venture to the theater. If the film is actually really good (which I believe it will be) then it would be a true shame to see it fail at the box office, due largely to the fact that it’s one of the few non-sequels to come out this year.

We, as moviegoers, typically whine and cry about too many sequels and not enough original material, yet oftentimes when we get it, we let it drown. Now, that’s totally understandable if the movie sucks. Nothing you can do about that. However, there are plenty of movies that suck and make box office bank, much to the chagrin of movie geeks everywhere.

Personally, I’m looking forward to something a little more risky and adventurous. I’d much rather see more original concepts (even if based on a novel), than more MEN IN BLACK, TRANSFORMERS, CHIPMUNKS, SMURFS, etc.

We’ll find out the answer to JOHN CARTER’s success when it opens in theaters on March 9, 2012.
