Before busting in on the (slightly) more mainstream movie-making scene with BRONSON, director Nicolas Winding Refn (DRIVE, VALHALLA RISING) made a trilogy of films dealing with drugs and some seriously bad days for those involved. The first of these was called PUSHER, starred Kim Bodnia and Mads Mikkelsen back before he whipped Bond’s junk, and was released in 1996. Of course, due to being in Danish and Refn’s recent considerable critical acclaim, the dubious decision to remake the first film was made. Then again, Refn serves as Executive Producer on the project, so it can’t be all bad. And if the rest of the movie’s style falls in line with the sheer coolness of this poster? Why, then there might not be much bad at all.
A plot synopsis:“In London, a drug pusher’s life spins out of control over the course of one week.” The movie stars Richard Coyle (FRANKLYN, PRINCE OF PERSIA) in the Kim Bodnia role of Frank (aka the “pusher” in question), is written by Matthew Read (THE WOLVES OF KROMER), and directed by Luis Prieto (MENO MALE CHE CI SEI). Currently there is no release date set, with the movie schedule to come out some time in 2012.
