We recently reported that there was some drama going on behind the scenes of Soderbergh’s THE SIDE EFFECTS, part of which involved the casting of Blake Lively (THE TOWN, GREEN LANTERN) being in question. Well it looks like that question has been answered, as Rooney Mara (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO) has stepped in to take the part once held by Lively of “a troubled young woman who develops a dangerous love triangle between her doctor (Jude Law) and her newly paroled husband (Channing Tatum).” Another actress being considered was Michelle Williams, so I think it’s safe to say that Ms. Mara must have rocked her audition and this isn’t just one of those lovely side effects of being an Oscar nominated actress.
This is Rooney’s first post-Lisbeth role, and considering the people involved – Soderbergh knows his stuff, and Scott Z. Burns (CONTAGION) is a dynamite writer – I’d say it’s easily one of the best choices she could have made. I’m also actually even more excited for the film now, as Rooney really went all out for her turn as Lisbeth Salander and I’m very intrigued to see how her acting has evolved in the wake of that experience.
