Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter finally gets some footage, albeit without any fangs (update: new poster!)

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER is one movie I am rather unsure about.

AbeLincolnVampHunterPosterOn the one hand it’s Abraham Lincoln slaying slavery in public and vampires in private. I’ve been wishing for a while for both a Civil War period piece and a solid vampire action movie, though I had no idea they’d come packaged together. It also boasts a killer cast (Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alan Tudyk, and Rufus Sewell) and is directed by Timur Beckmambetov (NIGHT WATCH, WANTED).

That being said, here’s the other hand: it’s Abraham Lincoln killing vampires, based on a gimmicky book written by Tim Burton’s new golden boy Seth Grahame-Smith which, while I have not read, I have been told is far from as good as the title should suggest. But either way, the movie is nearing its release date of June 22nd, and so the promotional materials are starting to roll out.

Which leads me to share with you this usual sort of behind the scenes video where everyone praises what’s going on and we see lots of shots of Benjamin Walker (as Lincoln) making speeches in front of a green screen. So there isn’t anything too thrilling here, but seeing any part of the movie in action does excite me a little.  A little.  And Benjamin Walker does look and sound like he has the gravitas to pull off the character of Lincoln, for these purposes anyway. If nothin else, it’s at least nice to see some footage at all. So how about a trailer sooner rather than soon, huh folks?

Incidentally, the best pull quote that could be asked for comes from Mr. Lincoln himself: “Doing a movie with Timur is like doing a movie with a really professional six year old.” Sounds about right. Not bad necessarily, just… well about right.
