David Cronenberg has written a sort of sequel to The Fly

The last time I saw THE FLY was probably in the early nineties. It was a bit gruesome for me at a young age so I never felt the need to revisit it. I love you Jeff Goldblum but the last couple of scenes in that movie are a little much.

The first film was directed and co-written by David Cronenberg. That film was a semi-remake of the 1958 version from helmer Kurt Neumann. Both are derived from the short story by George Langelaan. In 1989, if you recall, there was a sequel with Eric Stoltz as Goldblum’s grown-up son who is part human, part buggy. Cronenberg had nothing to do with that one.

A couple of years back there was a rumor that another remake of THE FLY was coming from 20th Century Fox. When Shock Til Ya Drop spoke with David Cronenberg they asked about the possibility of this happening to which the director said:

“‘The Fly’ is not exactly a remake, it’s sort of a sequel, kinda. Yeah, that was a thing. I’ve written a script of that, and I don’t know if that’s going to really happen, but that has to do with Fox.”

I wonder if Fox will let Cronenberg pursue the project. I’d rather have a “sort of” sequel than another remake.
