If you like Noah Baumbach (THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, KICKING AND SCREAMING), and specifically this year’s very good GREENBERG, then you’ll likely enjoy this bit of news.
For his next project entitled WHILE WE’RE YOUNG, Vulture is reporting that Baumbach has already attached his GREENBERG star Ben Stiller as well as James Franco, while Greta Gerwig and Cate Blanchett have had offers made to them to also join. The film will deal with “a free-spirited Brooklynite twenty-something couple (Franco — and, possibly, Gerwig) who inspires an uptight documentarian (Stiller) and his wife (possibly Blanchett, pending the resolution of some scheduling issues) to loosen up — with comedic consequences.”
Vulture also speculates that the Blanchett offer may originally have been intended for Baumbach’s GREENBERG co-writer and spouse, Jennifer Jason Leigh, but that that probably fell apart once she filed for divorce from the writer-director last week. Ouch.
