Disney has officially given the greenlight to “Tron: Uprising” an upcoming animated series that will feature the voices of Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Paul “Pee-Wee Herman” Reubens, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lance Henricksen and Bruce Boxleitner. The full series order is in addition to the animated “micro-series” that will debut in the fall of 2011.
It’s unclear exactly how “Uprising” fits into the world of TRON: LEGACY but the film’s writers, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, as well as co-producer Justin Springer are involved as producers. In the series, Wood will star as Beck, a kid who “leads a revolution inside the Grid’s computer world.”
If you’re excited about this news, I hate to break it to you but you’re going to have to wait. The series isn’t expected to debut (on the Disney XD channel) until summer of 2012.
A clip from the series was shown at a Disney press conference yesterday but sadly hasn’t made its way online yet. Stay tuned and we’ll have pics and video for you ASAP.
