This one’s kind of weird.
THR’s Heat Vision is reporting today that WB has bought an original pitch by brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman to build a feature film around the fictional ACME warehouse, birthplace of all the wacky items typically associated with the Looney Tunes world. Thing is, it wouldn’t feature any Looney Tunes characters.
“The plan is to make a live-action CG hybrid featuring the many outlandish devices of the company in a tone that recalls the Amblin pics of the 1980s or a Men in Black-style movie. It will not feature the Looney Tunes characters.”
“The hope now is to build a franchise out of the Warners-owned property.”
Sounds a little like Disney’s MAGIC KINGDOM and Fox’s NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM. Creating a franchise based around a location rather than a particular character would allow for greater freedom in terms of story writing, casting, etc. It’s a smart business move, and one that could even yield creative results if approached in the right way. Assuming the right talent was involved, would that be something you’d be interested in seeing here?
