Some lovely ladies may join Cruise and Renner in Not-MI4

UPDATE: Deadline now says that Paula Patton won the role in what is still being called a “franchise reboot”.

8.28.10: Aside from who’s involved so far, nobody seems to know what the hell the next MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movie really is.

We know that it will star Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner, and that JJ Abrams is producing and THE INCREDIBLES and IRON GIANT mastermind Brad Bird is directing (a fact I’m still wrestling to believe). Apparently it’s some kind of reboot or relaunch that won’t even be called MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE in any way.

Whatever the case, it will undoubtedly involve some kind of tech-heavy international espionage, and will have at least one sexy lady to offset the machismo. Deadline says that actresses Paula Patton (DEJA VU, PRECIOUS), Lauren German (HOSTEL II) and Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville”, STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI *giggle*) are all currently testing for the role of a young female operative.

No word yet on how any previous members like Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames or Jonathan Rhys Meyers will fit in now that the franchise seems to be getting restarted somehow.
