The seemingly endless casting process for the new Peter Parker in the SPIDER-MAN reboot ended with the unorthodox selection of Andrew Garfield (THE SOCIAL NETWORK, THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS). Now comes the next important question: Who will play the villain?
Well, that one’s going to wait for now, since at the moment we’re on “Who will play Peter’s love interest?”
It won’t be redhead neighbor Mary-Jane Watson that our arachnid-powered hero will be pining for this time (which, along with the rumored Lizard for the wallcrawler’s nemesis, further demonstrates the lengths that the studio is going to differentiate their reboot from Raimi’s trilogy). But while we don’t know if the character will end up being Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy or some other random gal, at least we know some of the actresses being seriously considered in the current round of “readings and meetings”.
According to Heat Vision, the list of potentials includes:
-Mary Elizabeth Winstead (SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD)
-Imogen Poots (28 WEEKS LATER, upcoming FRIGHT NIGHT remake)
-Teresa Palmer (THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE, upcoming I AM NUMBER FOUR)
-Lilly Collins (THE BLIND SIDE, upcoming PRIEST)
-Emma Roberts (NANCY DREW, HOTEL FOR DOGS)
-Ophelia Lovibond (NOWHERE BOY, upcoming LONDON BOULEVARD)
And the search is still on for an appropriate actor for the villain role. Stay tuned, true believer, Excelsior, ’nuff said, and alla that stuff.
