THE AVENGERS has officially announced its start date, and it’s coming up pretty quickly. The film will start shooting in February 2011, around six months from now, and fifteen months ahead of its May 4, 2012 release date.
It looks like three months of shooting, and twelve months of animation work to make the Hulk crawl out of Uncanny Valley. I’m almost convinced they should just have a guy in a rubber suit at this point a-la-Hellboy.
The project is probably one of the most ambitious films in history, and I’m not sure how even Joss Whedon, god of all things creative, is going to pull off smashing all these different franchises together. But if anyone can do it, it’s probably him.
I’m very curious to see how Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. are going to work in a movie like this together, as there will almost be too much sharp wit to handle between the two of them and a Whedon script. Ruffalo is still an odd choice for Banner if you ask me, but he’s certainly capable. Renner is a great addition as well.
As for Hemsworth? He’s kind of a question mark, but I liked what I saw from the THOR footage. Don’t get me started on Sam Jackson and Johansson.
