“30 Days of Night” comic author Steve Niles recently spoke to MTV about a possible follow-up to the pretty solid, David Slade directed adaptation of his work and mentioned that it is indeed coming but, sadly, it’ll be going straight to DVD. How far along are they in the process? “The script is in. I’ve been working on it with a buddy of mine, Ben Ketai, who directed the last round of the online webisodes,” says Niles. The film will be based on the comic sequel “Dark Days” in which Stella Olemaun (Melissa George’s character in the film) moves to Los Angeles and purposely attracts the vampire community in order to take revenge on what the Alaskan vampires did to her husband Eben (Josh Hartnett’s character in the film). As for why it’s going straight to DVD? He had this to say: “We didn’t hit that magic $100 million, but I had a long talk with Sam [Raimi, producer of the original film]. He called me and just said, ‘Don’t be too quick to judge this direct-to-DVD market, especially with the sci-fi market.’” Well, straight to DVD is better than nothing.
