Fee fie foe fum! I smell… an update of a classic fairy tale! Hooray for public domain!
While many of us thought director DJ Caruso might complete the Shia trifecta (after DISTURBIA and EAGLE EYE) with his planned adaptation of the comic Y: THE LAST MAN, instead Caruso is going green. He’ll direct New Line’s JACK THE GIANT KILLER, an “adult” version of the old English fairy tale.
You probably know the previous version: Jack brings home magic beans that grow into a gigantic beanstalk, which he climbs into the clouds to discover a castle, enchanted poultry, gold and a large cranky dude.
According to Variety, the Caruso version will go like this: “When a princess is kidnapped, a long-standing peace between men and giants becomes threatened, and a young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giant kingdom to rescue her.”
