If you were hoping to explore another murder investigation with Morgan Freeman’s detective Somerset — possibly involving a long lost Deadly Sin — in a sequel to SEVEN (I refuse to write SE7EN because a.) it’s stupid, and b.) would be pronounced “Sesevenen”), odds are it’s in a box with Gwyneth’s head.
When asked about the proposed sequel at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Q&A for BENJAMIN BUTTON, director David Fincher put it bluntly: “I would be less interested in that than I would in having cigarettes put out in my eyes.” You know what that means, right? It means… there’s still a chance!
Fincher clarified further: “I keep trying to get out from under my own shadow,” he said. “I don’t want to do the same shit over and over.” Which sort of calls into question the status of NESS (based on the graphic novel “TORSO”), which would be his third film about the hunt for a serial killer… But fear not, Fincher still has at least a half-dozen other potential projects to keep him busy, and at least one of them will probably star Brad Pitt.
And in case you forgot, those rumors about EI8HT started right here…
